This magnetic travel chess  set is one of our most popular small wood travel chess sets.

  • Small enough to fit nicely on a coffee table, but large enough to easily distinguish the pieces.
  • The King is 7.75 inches tall. The chess board is 10.5 x 10.5 inches and decorated on the borders for display at home or in the office.
  • These handsomely designed sturdy chess pieces are made of Hornbeam and Beech. and have felt pads on the bottom of each chess piece.
  • The chess board is crafted from Beech and Birch wood. The interior of the chess board is a felt lined storage compartment.

Affordable European Craftmanship

This fine chess set is one of our most popular wood and magnetic travel chess sets. It is made of Hornbeam wood and just the right size to fit on almost any table. The chess pieces are magnetic and won't slide around; it's even got "algebraic" coordinates engraved on the edge of the board. The pieces are easy to recognize for any chess player, even beginners. The chess pieces have storage inside the folding chess board for easy travel , and the board closes nicely with a brass clasp. The perfect chess set for players on the go or players who want an elegant and portable chess set to play on.

The Light Chess Pieces
The Light pieces are made of Hornbeam, a wood that is found in the forests of Europe. Hornbeam (sometimes known as Ironwood) is mostly white and used for intricate and decorative carvings. There are no lead weights in these pieces - they are solid wood! King height: 1.75 inches.

The Dark Chess Pieces
The Dark pieces are crafted from Sycamore which offers a dark brown, smooth textured wood. This wood, coupled with the craftsmanship of the Carpathian artisans, makes for some of the finest moderately priced chess sets available in the marketplace today.

The Lay Flat Chess Board
The chess board is made of Birch and Beech. The chess board lays flat and is 10.5 x 10.5 inches. When folded in the center to store your chess pieces, it is 5.25" x 5.25" with a 2.5" depth. The set includes intricate and decorative carvings along chess board edge.

The Chess Board Interior
The interior of the chess board piece storage area is lined with velvet like material, giving this magnetic chess set an over-the-top look and feel.

    lovely looking but weak magnets

    A very good looking set. Great size for playing along while reading a chess book. I wish however that the magnets were stronger. I recall as a kid I had a magnetic set and the board was a thin sheet of steel. Those pieces "stuck" like crazy. This board is wooden-like finish so it is magnetic but nowhere near the strength I would have liked. Good for minor bumps/tilts. Overall a very nice set.

This is by far the most impressive chess set I've ever seen!!

Now you have to know up front when buying online I generally look at the three star and lower reviews, so I ordered this set with a lot of skepticism, just sure something was going to be FUBAR,...... Boy was I wrong!! I got the set and carefully un-packed it and was just amazed. It is PERFECT!! Seems that all the every flaw that had been complained about in the three star and less reviews had been addressed by the manufacturer!! So being eager to show it off and being a good ole boy, I invite my buddies over and we all set out on the porch {now that the weather is finally getting nice out} and play from noon until sunset. I enjoy all the compliments this beautiful the set gets, and everyone loves to play on it!!
