Alexei Shirov: My Best Games in the Nimzo-Indian (Download)
With this Video Download on the Nimzo-Indian Defense (including the Catalan and the Queen's Indian) Alexei Shirov continues the successful and highly praised series about his best games. As in the preceding Video Downloads the Latvian super Grandmaster succeeds in spoiling his public with analysis of a high quality and exciting insights into his games. Although the Video Download concentrates on the Classical Nimzo-Indian (i.e. 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.Qc2), Shirov also covers 3.Nf3. Exploring the related positions of the Queen's Indian and Catalan can lead to insight into the Nimzo-Indian as well as providing a good alternative for white. If you are going to play the Black side of 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 you must be prepared for 3.Nf3! Among the opponents in the games he presents are Topalov and Leko. Video running time: over 4 hours.
Alexei Shirov was born in Riga just like world champion Mihail Tal and, curiously, his playing style reminds many chess fans of the young Tal. In the beginning of the 90s, a comet-like rise brought the young Latvian to the top of the world's rating lists. At just 22 years old he achieved an Elo rating of nearly 2750 and entered the ranks of the absolute elite. Since then Shirov has continued to rank as one of the best players in the world, consistently delighting chess fans with original and amazing ideas.
